Paul Harris is a leading choreographer, dance teacher and movement director who's most high profile choreography to date, is probably the laser scenes for Catherine Zeta-Jones in the Hollywood blockbuster 'Entrapment' and the wand combat sequences in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix for which he devised the physical language for the use of the wand. He has coached and choreographed for Oscar, BAFTA and Emmy Award winning actors including, Sean Connery, Gary Oldman, Ralph Fiennes, Michael Gambon, Helena Bonham-Carter, Zoe Wanamaker, Sam Neill, Charles Dance and Paul has choreographed many times in both television and theatre for Tony Award winning actor Robert Lindsay. Other film credits include 'The Other Boleyn Girl' with Scarlett Johansson, Natalie Portman and Eric Bana, 'The Tichborne Claimant', 'Cheetah Girls 2' for Disney, 'Love and Other Disasters' staring Brittany Murphy and 'Mister Lonely' with Samantha Morton. Paul also choreographed 'Inkheart' with Helen Mirren due for release in 2008.
Extensive television credits include the BAFTA winning 'Bleak House' and 'The Way We Live Now', the BAFTA nominated 'To the Ends of the Earth', 'The Sins', 'Jane Eyre', 'Sense and Sensibility', 'Miss Austen Regrets', 'My Family' and 'I was a Rat' all for the BBC as well as another Jane Austen drama to be released in 2008 'Lost in Austen', 'Poirot', 'A Touch of Frost', 'William and Mary', 'My Family' and the 'The Quest 2' all for the ITV. Most recently Paul choreographed the BBC's major new production of 'Little Dorrit' to be released Autumn 2008.
Paul is currently choreographing 'Liberty', a new play by Glyn Maxwell at Shakespeare's Globe and he was the Choreographer and Movement Director on the hit 50th anniversary production of 'The Entertainer' at the Old Vic and the movement coach on 'Gaslight' also at the Old Vic. He was a guest dance tutor on 'Two Gentleman of Verona' for the Royal Shakespeare Company. Other theatre credits include 'Flight of the Swan' at The Royal Opera House, 'A Family Affair' and 'The Importance of Being Earnest' for the Theatre Royal, Bath, the Uk National Tour of 'Wallflowering', 'Dancing at Lughanasa', 'David Copperfield', 'Erpingham Camp', 'Mill on the Floss', 'The Rivals', 'As You Like It', 'The American Clock', 'Picnic' and 'Comic Potential'.
As a dance teacher, Paul was the main Mentor in the 'Kick Boxer to Ballroom Dancer' episode of the multi award winning 'Faking It'. He is an Actors Centre dance tutor and has devised dance courses for, and taught at, ALRA, Central School of Speech and Drama, Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts and Italia Conti. He has coached and choreographed for World Champions in Showdance, Ballroom Dancing, Salsa, Argentine Tango, Latin American dancing and has taught several of the Profesional Dancers on 'Strictly Come Dancing' and 'Strictly Dance Fever'.
He is the author of 'Salsa and Merengue - The Essential Step by Step Guide' and the standard technique book for study for Professional examinations in Merengue, Salsa and Mambo for three British Dance Council teaching organisations. He also wrote the course guide for BA (hons) Acting in 19th & 20th Century Social Dance for the UKA (United Kingdom Alliance of Professional Teachers of Dancing) - of which he is a Fellow and Examiner and he is currently co-founding a new Historical Dance faculty for the UKA. This broad area of expertise has made Paul Harris a leading choreographer in Historical Dance, Tango, Period Dance, Salsa, Swing, Ballroom and Latin American.
Paul's work is a natural combination of his two backgrounds. He studied acting at drama school himself and on graduating worked extensively in theatre and television including national tours of three West End productions. Prior to this, Paul was the UK, West European and International Champion in both Ballroom and Latin American Dancing as well as studying Classical Ballet, Jazz and Tap.
